I had another post planned for today but I couldn’t let the WordPress upgrade go by without saying something. I’m a little confused. I don’t hate it but I wish they’d given us some warning. It caught me by surprise and I spent about two hours having to fix my widgets after everything disappeared and then getting used to the interface; if I’d known I’d have copied everything first to be safe.
I’m torn on the upgrade. I like the new features; the gallery and being able to upload several images at once is a big improvement and I’m warming to the layout. The main reason I’m confused is I don’t see why it was necessary to do the upgrade so quickly. Most users aren’t going to know how to use the new features right away; a gradual introduction (like the way themes are added) would have been more successful, in my opinion, and allowed people to adjust.
The main thing I don’t like is that the edit comment link has disappeared from the dashboard; you have to click on the avatar every time to edit it and that’s a pain. Also the font is smaller but overall I don’t mind the new version… I just wish they’d waited a bit longer and ironed out some of these problems first. And the blog surfer.
I spent so long looking at the new features and fixing problems that I haven’t had time to finish the post I’d planned. So I thought I’d post some of the strange search terms from my blog instead. I call them Googleages after Alynda’s old posts and some are bizarre (and not just the grammar). Kind of like my blog, don’t you think? 😉
One of my favourites is this one: sulz define. I don’t know how we could possibly define sulz… she’s funny, interesting, talented… sulz is sulz. It’s just weird that the search ended up on my blog instead of sulz’s. Wouldn’t you go to the blog which actually has sulz in the title? Or maybe that’s just me.
Let me know if you have any favourites. 🙂
unique ideas for a million dollars
Ah but if I told you then it wouldn’t be unique now, would it?
australians all love ostriches
A line in our national anthem is often misheard as “Australians all love ostriches”. It’s true, though, we do love ostriches… perhaps too much…
new job new sleep pattern no need for al
OMG! You’re going to kill Al! Why?
two words that don’t make sense together
Actual reenactment. Think about it; there’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one. Insane logic and pretty ugly. Recorded live‘s another one.
cj is special in a bad way
Finally, someone who gets me! Deep down I make Voldemort look like a muppet.
i want to hold you until i die
But we only just met. Can’t we have more time?
i waste too much time dreaming of you
I told you, I need more time… it’s not you, it’s me…
you occupy my thoughts, dreams and hopes
Stop pressuring me! Look, the truth is, there’s someone else… Keri. She’s an ostrich.
more sleep helps you get longer fingers?
No idea what post that search must have turned up. I assume it’s not true… if it is I really need to get rid of this insomnia.
youre only afraid of death when you real
I have no idea what that means. You’re not afraid of death if you’re a ghost?
cj is gone forever
No, I’m still here. See?
drink myself to happiness poetry
I don’t know what’s more disturbing – the drinking to happiness bit or the idea that my poetry might drive someone to drink!
Is it cut the muster or cut the mustard?
Cut the mustard, obviously. They mixed it up with to pass muster which is similar. I just liked it that they started with a capital.
we make smiles happen
You’ve been hanging out with the poetry guy, haven’t you?
shia labeouf’s penis
I have no idea where that came from. I mentioned Shia LaBeouf once about Indy 4 and suddenly I’m running a porn blog! 😉

hahaha! i guess i need to pimp my name in my blog a lot more. as for being funny, interesting and talented, err… i might stake claim for the first two, because i can be those on a rare blue moon. as for talented, i can’t find yet… oh wait, i do have the talent for bumping into things. the more i want to avoid something, the more i scrape my knee or elbow into it!
as for editing comments, you could edit it through the ‘comments’ section in dashboard by clicking the username. that threw me off because the username mostly links to blogs, not the editing function…
i like the cj ones and shia laboeuf’s penis. 😛
CJ: That Sulz At The Movies post will help! A few more of those and you’ll be back at the top of the searches in no time. 😉 And sulz, really, stop being so modest! I meant everything I said and writing’s just one of your talents; your blog wouldn’t be so engaging otherwise. Bumping’s not such a bad talent, though. Bet it comes in handy when you want to talk to a guy. 🙂
I noticed that about the username after I posted it… I find it a bit harder than the avatar as the font is smaller. I still think it’s strange the link just vanished like that; we all have to edit a comment at some stage… guess it’s just something we’ll have to get used to.
I get a lot of CJ searches but those two were very weird. Makes you wonder what they were really looking for… at least the Shia LaBoeuf one was nice for my stats! 😉
ROTFL!!! Alright, ceej, I’ll admit your blog has made me cry at times. I’ve even complained to you about that. You often have poignant thoughts and stunning poetry. This one, though, had me weeping from laughter! The search terms were good, but your commentary is the best. You need to write more humour pieces!
“we do love ostriches… perhaps too much…” —you can’t love them as much as you do ducks, now can you? 😉
“cj is special in a bad way” —so, so true. It’s why we all come here.
“more sleep helps you get longer fingers?” —Wha–aht? Would that help or hinder your typing?
I’m getting used to the new Dashboard. It came as quite a shock at first. I was typing a comment, hit submit, and began to question my sanity (more than usual). I’m getting used to it now, though, and, as you did, wished they’da let us know first.
sulz define! It is interesting that one ended up here—you’ve taken on a difficult task. Hope your searcher got the answer they were looking for! She is certainly talented, and now that she’s being less self-depreciating on her own blog, she’s apparently decided to come do that over here instead! Humph.
CJ: Wow, I don’t think I’ve made someone weep with laughter before! Thanks, Muse! I just thought the searches were so strange that they needed to be treated with a bit of fun and it suited my sense of humour. I plan to write some lighter posts every now and then; I had a lot of fun with this and it’s good to have a balance. Plus I’ve been wanting to talk about some different things in the blog.
Ah, the ducks… I was wondering if you’d bring them up! Luckily Quing Quang doesn’t feel threatened by other birds. 🙂 The fingers search doesn’t make sense to me at all… how would it even work? Would our skeleton shrink? I think I have enough trouble typing without having to worry about my fingers changing too.
It sounds like a lot of people were in the middle of posting and commenting when the upgrade happened. I’m actually surprised more people didn’t lose their work… if there’s ever a reason for giving a warning, surely that’s one? I’m still getting used to the dashboard but at least I know where everything is now! That’s an improvement.
I couldn’t even begin to define sulz properly but maybe we need to add modest to the list, eh? 😉 The interesting thing about these searches is seeing how a lot of people search, with sentences rather than terms. No wonder people have trouble finding things on Google. I wonder what the we make smiles happen guy was looking for… he freaks me out. 🙂
and now that she’s being less self-depreciating on her own blog, she’s apparently decided to come do that over here instead! Humph.
that made me LOL! so funny…
CJ: Muse certainly has a way with words, eh? 😆
Ive never heard if the ostriches line before… my brother when he was a wee boy used to sing it like this;
“Australians owe lettuce for Joyce”.
CJ: My friends used to say it a lot, which must be where I heard it. There’s another one as well, Australians all eat sausages; it’s popular at picnics. 😉
I hadn’t heard the Joyce one before but I love that! I’ll have to work it into the anthem next time.
Those are great! I think I may just adopt the word Googleage.
Normally people arrive at my blog after searching for stuff that I actually blog about, although scanning my stats page just now I did discover that somebody searched for ‘the study of dragonball’ and somehow wound up at my blog. Which is weird, since I don’t watch Dragonball Z.
It was your responses that got me, though. “Stop pressuring me!”, “No, I’m still here, see?”… classic!
As for defining sulz, that’s got to be something only sulz herself is capable of, although your attempt was pretty good. Maybe somebody visited sulz’s blog, wondered what her name meant, and came here hoping you could shed some light on it?
CJ: I get a lot of those searches too; probably 70% match a post or at least make some kind of sense. Dragonball’s a funny one, though… maybe you mentioned it in a post about cult tv shows or something?
Glad you liked the responses too, Bobby! I felt like it wouldn’t work to take the searches too seriously, so I just said the first thing that came into my head… I guess irony’s my kind of humour. 😉
That would make sense, if they came here after reading one of sulz’s posts… although they’d probably have done better to look at her about page! I think sulz is also a kind of rare sausage, so perhaps they wanted to know what the ingredients were or how to cook it?
I love the word Googleage, btw. Who knows, if enough of us use it, maybe it’ll be in the dictionary one day. 🙂
lolll!! These are so funny, CJ…I thought that the Australians like the Kangaroos instead but I know for sure they like the Canadians and the Americans too, why not?…..
CJ: Thanks, CV! I wanted to have a bit of fun with the searches and I really enjoyed it in the end… I guess it’s my kind of humour. 😉
I think the reason that line about ostriches is popular is because a lot of people get mixed up between ostriches and emus (our national bird). So I can see why it’s caught on; it’s like the perfect mondegreen.
We do have a saying about kangaroos, though: he’s got a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock, which means someone’s starting to go crazy. I’ve always liked that; it’s so Australian. 🙂
Oi! I miss the spell check – that seems to have disappeared in the new wordpress version – dang it – now as an Aussie living in the US I’ll have to be more careful I don’t use an S when I need to use a Z – or is that a Z when I need an S – it’s so confusing! and so is the new updated word press – I hate change!!! strewth mate they went the raw prawn with me!
CJ: The spell check should be back in a couple of days; staff are working on making it compatible again. I wish they’d had it working first as well but hopefully it won’t be much longer.
And I sympathise! I’ve had people tell me I don’t know “how to spell” because I use S instead of Z… I guess they don’t know Christmas from Bourke Street… gee that sounded weird! We have some really weird expressions when you think about them. 🙂
i’m a rare kind of sausage, huh? 😕 oh, the ‘we make smiles happen’ sounds like some brand’s catchphrase… i’ve read or heard somewhere.
and my name doesn’t mean anything special. it’s just a derivation of my real name. the protected post would explain it. 😉
CJ: So you didn’t know that about the sausage thing? I think sulz is more like a box of Belgian chocolates myself; eclectic and a surprise every time. 8)
I wouldn’t have thought of a catchphrase but that makes sense. Maybe for Colgate or some dentist? Still don’t see why that would have ended up here, though. I don’t like dentists. 😉
sulz once mentioned that there are areas or towns near Germany or Switzerland called “sulz”, but she IS a bit of a rare sausage; I like that better.
However, if we click on the link we learn that Sulz is made from: “Select pork tongues and snouts…” And did you know: “If you enjoy the flavor of vinegar, Sulz is for you.”
Hahaha!! I’ll never think of sulz the same way again! 😀
CJ: Yes, the rare bit suits sulz… not sure about the sausage. I’m not a fan of sausages and certainly not pork tongues and snouts! I think sulz is more like a box of chocolates or a fine bottle of wine; a rich and varied taste. 😉
P.S. — No offense intended. I adore sulz, and don’t find her the least bit vinegary or pork-snouty. That sausage description was just too good not to comment on, though!
CJ: It was too good to let by, wasn’t it? Wish I’d known you guys didn’t know about it earlier! 🙂
hahaha, that’s funny… i guess i’m kinda like an acquired taste.
CJ: Well, maybe your new blog skin is. It takes a little getting used to. 😉
I have to tell you–some of the search terms that bring people to my blog are so randomly bizarre that I made a page for them. Worst one: Mother and son sex. And that one’s shown up more than once!
CJ: Wow, I just had a look. They really are bizarre. What the hell does billy boat im going to eat your toes mean? Actually no, I don’t want to know! 😉
And that mother and son one, yikes! 😯 I’ve had some disturbing searches a few times, ones I didn’t want to post… I’ve actually wondered if some of them should be reported but I wouldn’t know where to begin. At the least I’d like to know why they keep appearing in searches so I can stop it.
I can see why ”emus” is your national bird…They have shown the Flugtag event last nite on the news.. You guys like to fly..loll!!
CJ: Emus are wonderful, aren’t they? There’s even a creation myth about them where the Sun was created by throwing an Emu egg into the sky.
The Flugtag was fun! I think I even saw one guy trying to launch a model of the Enterprise… all that work only for it to break! Great tv, though. 🙂
omg! I get search terms for sulz all the time! she occupies about 45% of search terms that lead to my posts. the only search term that trumps her is barack obama. 🙂
CJ: Glad you liked them, NW. Some of them were too much fun to let go. 😉
So you get searches for sulz too? She’s going to rule the blogosphere before long! Taking over the world one blog at a time… 🙂
haha, maybe i should for presidency.
CJ: President Sulz. I like the sound of that. 8)
lol you’d have a lot of votes, I’ll tell you that right now.
CJ: And she’d be the first candidate to update their own blog! How could she lose? 🙂
😀 losing is not an option.
CJ: And if she did lose, she could always be the next Governator. 😉
Well, at least yours look nice and random. I have a distinct feeling that I have a fetishist following. But, that’s alright. I don’t mind. It’s not my fault that the foodie community calls yummy pictures food porn and I have stuff like socks and shoes up!
Ad the whole upgrade thingy threw me for a loop. Unfortunately I have not had the time to analyze if anything went missing from my page. I hope not, I’m too tired to fix it. Perhaps I don’t understand some of the headers and it takes me just clicking on everything until I find what I want. Did they try to warn us somehow? Or did I just miss the memo?
*sneaks around here to add you to a whole other listing of google searches, by mentioning bombshell and finca alzamora, purrs with her evilness*
CJ: My searches tend to be pretty random, I guess because I write about different topics, but I get some kinky ones too… freaky sex and erotic talk seem popular. I guess I’ve been running a sex blog all this time without knowing it! 🙂 Your searches sound like fun though! I wonder what people think when they type in food porn and actual pictures of food come up? Are they disappointed or just hungry? 😆
AFAIK there wasn’t a warning about the upgrade. A few people have said that WP couldn’t give notice because it would provide an opportunity for an attack but I don’t know I agree with that. They give us notice for maintenance and something like that would have been fine. It looks like people are starting to adjust now, though, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m impressed with the gallery feature; it almost makes up for losing my widgets…
You know, I’ve actually seen a couple of those searches come up already! They must be very confused when they see this post. Oh well, it’s all good for hits. 😀
lol governator, think she’ll have to run for gov before pres…. but sulz is so cool it doesn’t matter!
CJ: How about NightWriter for VP? You’d make an unstoppable team! 🙂
I’d be honored to run with sulz! and i’ve got some great campaign ideas.
CJ: Sulz/NightWriter 08: Bloggers Unite! I like the sound of that. 😉
i’m gone for about a week and you guys are plotting my presidential campaign!!
CJ: That’s what good advisers do, sulz! Behind every good leader is a good team. 🙂
yeah sulz, we’re planning your take over!
CJ: Yeah, sulz! We believe President Sulz can make a difference in the world! Don’t fight it… it’s your destiny. 😛
