A friend and I found a windmill near Maitland recently and we thought it might make for an interesting subject with the Milky Way behind it. We weren’t sure if it was going to be dark enough at first but the photos turned out well and I think these might be some of my favourite shots of the Milky Way so far. It was cold but a very fun night!

I went with a friend to shoot some astrophotography at Catherine Hill Bay recently. It’s one of the few spots near Newcastle that’s almost entirely dark, with very little light pollution, so it’s great for the stars and the Milky Way.
I was a little worried it was going to cloud over before the shoot but luckily it stayed very clear and we managed to capture the Milky Way in all its beauty. We also caught the moon rising – it was so bright it almost looks like a sunrise!

I took these shots in Newcastle last week. I’ve always loved the stars and have often wanted to try to shoot the Milky Way but there’s usually too much light pollution around to shoot it properly. I took these at Nobbys Breakwall and while there was still light pollution, it was dark enough to get a few shots. I was pleased with how they came out, particularly not having done a lot of astrophotography before. Not bad for a first attempt!
